Bull Creek Road
(Hancock Drive - Jefferson Street)
The City of Austin plans to bring sidewalk, bikeway and intersection safety improvements to people living and traveling along Bull Creek Road from Jefferson to 39th streets and 45th Street to Hancock Drive.
Project background and goals
In the Spring of 2023, the City plans to build Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant sidewalks and intersection improvements along Bull Creek Road from 45th Street to Hancock Drive. The project will include a bikeway connection, pedestrian crossings and signal improvements in this segment of Bull Creek Road as well as the segment to the south from Jefferson Street to 39th Street. The changes are expected to improve access to the Shoal Creek Trail, area schools, local bus stops, nearby retail and restaurant options, as well as parks, churches and corner stores.
Funding
Funding for these near-term improvements is available from the 2016 Mobility Bond Bikeways and Sidewalks programs and from the District 7 Quarter Cent fund.
Project Updates
September 2024: Final bikeway
installation underway
The final phase of markings is currently in progress along
Bull Creek Road following the successful completion of bus stops, curb
extensions and pedestrian crossing islands. Once complete, the two-way bikeway
along the east curb will be open, offering bicycle connectivity along Bull
Creek Road from Hancock Drive to Jefferson Street.
January 2024: Updated Transit Access Improvements
Work continues on Bull Creek Road to add sidewalks, bus stops, shared use pathway and new pedestrian crossings. Transit access will be changing to optimize space between stops. New bus stops will be reconstructed at Perry Lane, where the existing stop pair is located. A new bus stop will also be reconstructed at Hancock Drive, serving the northbound direction. The southbound bus stop will relocate around the corner to Hancock Drive.
