Austin Public Health's Immunization Program
Austin Public Health's Immunizations Program 2010-2018
Many communicable diseases among children are preventable. However, more than one-fourth of the children in Texas don't receive the immunizations they need by age two. If not protected against the illnesses these immunizations will prevent, children can develop life-threatening medical conditions including brain damage, deafness, pneumonia, and seizures. Some diseases, like Rubella, can be spread to pregnant women and cause miscarriage or birth defects. Adult diseases that used to be common can now be prevented with immunizations.
Austin Public Health's Immunizations Program provides safety-net immunization services* through its Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Adult Safety-Net (ASN) vaccination programs at two clinic sites** (St. John's & Far South) in Austin.
*Safety-net immunization services are available for individuals either through the VFC or ASN programs. Children receiving safety-net services through VFC are either Medicaid eligible, uninsured, American Indian or Alaska Native, or under-insured (insurance doesn't cover childhood vaccinations). Adults receiving safety-net services through ASN are uninsured.
**APH works with multiple other providers in Austin/Travis County to provide immunizations. See the map (bottom of page) for other providers participating in the Texas Vaccines for Children and Adult Safety Net programs.
