Pecan Brook Drive and Crystalbrook Drive

Austin Transportation is partnering with Capital Metro to develop better access to transit and safer conditions for people walking, bicycling and driving along Pecan Brook Drive and Crystalbrook Drive in northeast Austin.

Project overview

Austin Transportation is evaluating Pecan Brook Drive and Crystalbrook Drive for mobility and safety improvements. Together, these streets offer connectivity to, from and between destinations in northeast Austin, including two schools and a neighborhood park as well as residential, commercial, and recreational destinations.
Additionally, Capital Metro plans to install new stations for the MetroRapid Expo bus line along Pecan Brook Drive and Crystalbrook Drive by 2023 as part of Project Connect. Austin Transportation will integrate these new MetroRapid stops, along with existing MetroBus stops, into the project design to support all modes of travel.
Proposed changes
  • Two-way protected bike lanes along the south side Pecan Brook Drive and the east side of Crystalbrook Drive
  • Shared use paths routed behind bus stops for continuous physical separation between street users
  • Nine pedestrian crossing islands at key locations along Pecan Brook Drive and Crystalbrook Drive
  • Five speed cushions for further traffic calming on Crystabrook Drive
Funding
Funding for these improvements is made possible through the City of Austin’s Mobility Bond programs, including the Bikeways, Pedestrian Crossing, and Safe Routes to School programs, as well as Austin Transportation’s Speed Management Program.
