The La Loma Trail project was initiated to determine the best route for a future trail connection to provide safe walking access for Eastside Memorial High School students and improved connectivity between Southern Walnut Creek Trail and adjacent neighborhoods.
Through this planning process, the Urban Trails Program is reviewing alternative routes for a 12-foot shared use concrete path for people on bikes and people walking. All options being reviewed through the La Loma Trail project would be designed to provide safer connections for students and improved connections to neighborhoods, parks and schools.
Funded through the Local Mobility Program of the 2016 Mobility Bond, a Preliminary Engineering Report was developed for the La Loma Trail project. The Mobility Bond was approved by voters in November 2016. It dedicates $26 million for urban trails with a transportation and mobility purpose. There are no design or construction funds allocated for this project, but having a plan ready allows the City to move forward, if funding is identified.
Preliminary Engineering Recommendations
The Preliminary Engineering Report shows the recommended route for La Loma Trail, and lists topics the City needs to consider in order to build this trail. These topics include environmental concerns, wildlife, nearby property ownership, permitting, public input and more.
