City of Austin Performance Report 2014-15

Total Number of Community and Commercial Events Attended

Measure Description
This is a count of the total number of community, commercial and licensed trade events attended by Austin Code Department (ACD) employees. This measure is a reflection of the department’s presence and outreach performed in the community.
Calculation Method
This measure is calculated by summing the total number of community and commercial events attended throughout the fiscal year.
FY 2014-15 Results
In FY 2014-15, Austin Code employees exceeded the target of attending 50 community events and attended 93 events.
Assessment of Results
In FY 2014-15, ACD increased its presence in the community by attending 93 community engagement meetings, events and activities. Some of the events attended by Austin Code staff included the African American Heritage Festival, Austin Earth Day Festival, Feria Para Aprendar, National Night Out, Operation Blue Santa, Spirit of East Austin Community Forum, and ACC Juneteenth Event. At these events, ACD staff provided information to the community on how to identify potential violations and how to maintain or bring properties into compliance.
Austin Code successfully mitigated multiple code issues in the Colony Park area by partnering with the Colony Park Neighborhood Association and community leaders. ACD presented at community meetings, hosted community events, and coordinated resource fairs to increase community awareness. In addition, ACD facilitated neighborhood services, such as painting numerical addresses on aging properties. As a result, the Colony Park initiative will be used as a department case study to show how to best approach areas with a high concentration of code violations.

ACD plans to maintain its high visibility within the community by expanding its community outreach and education efforts as the city grows. With these efforts, ACD will focus more on proactive responses to the community needs expressed at community forums.
