Boggy Creek Trail
Boggy Creek Trail is located in Southeast Austin. This trail is part of the Red Line and the Eastlink trail systems, providing key
connections to downtown, parks, transit, and major attractions.
In partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department, Austin Public Works and Austin Transportation are building changes to the lower portion of Boggy Creek Trail (located between Rosewood Avenue and E 12th Street). Once completed, this project will connect to the existing upper portion of Boggy Creek Trail located between E 12th St. to Capital Metro MLK Jr. Station. The upper portion of Boggy Creek Trail opened to the public in July 2019.
Construction Underway
Beginning Monday, November 30, 2020 trail construction will move into its final phase, which will require a trail closure from Rosewood Avenue to East 12th Street. This closure is anticipated to last approximately three weeks and detour route signs will be placed at trail closure points. Construction schedules are dependent on weather.
The project will upgrade Boggy
Creek Trail to a dual track trail between Rosewood Avenue and E 12th Street,
which will allow for the separation of people walking from people biking and
using other wheeled devices.
Project Background
The Boggy Creek Trail is among several high priority
projects recommended in the City’s 2014 Urban Trails Plan.
The plan envisions 47 additional miles of high priority trails to be built over
the next two decades.
The Boggy Creek Trail from Rosewood Avenue to E 12th Street connection will create a dual track trail, allowing for separation of people walking from people biking and using other wheeled devices. The project will construct a 11-foot wide concrete trail adjacent to the existing 6-foot sidewalk. This track will connect to an existing crushed granite trail south of Rosewood Avenue and to the newly constructed Upper Boggy Creek Trail from E 12th Street to the MLK Jr. Metrorail Station.
December 2019 Project Update
After
evaluating all community input, the City is moving forward with implementation of a new trail next to the existing sidewalk.
The new dual track trail on Boggy Creek Trail from Rosewood Avenue to E
12th Street will allow for the separation of people walking from
people biking and using other wheeled devices.
The project team received and reviewed over 100 survey responses about the
proposal. Over 75% of survey responses were comfortable with the changes
proposed for Boggy Creek Trail.
Construction is anticipated to begin by summer of 2020.
