Visitors and transplants alike continue to flock to the City of Austin as it continues to dominate national rankings. As a result, Austin-Bergstrom Airport, owned and operated by the City of Austin Aviation Department, is in a critical period of growth. To meet this challenge, a renovation of the airport began in 2017. The expansion includes installing new departure gates; adding acres of airfield space to accommodate more and larger jets; and increasing parking, shopping options, and other facilities and services for passengers.
The airport’s South Terminal was expanded to increase capacity, adding more than 88,000 square feet of space—enough room to accommodate 15 million passengers. The airport expansion included the deployment of shared-use passenger-processing technology to ensure operational efficiency and passenger safety. Other improvements included the deployment of an enterprise Wi-Fi solution for airline partners, improving their operations throughout the airport.
