Message from the Director
The Austin Convention Center Department (ACCD) is an award-winning department that manages the LEED@ Gold-certified Austin Convention Center and the Palmer Events Center (PEC), along with three parking facilities. Our facilities operate under a full-service business model, which allows us to deliver a wide range of personalized services to our clients. FY 2014-15 was a very successful year for the Austin Convention Center Department. Major departmental accomplishments include:
  • Completion of a Consultant’s Long-Range Master Plan recommending a facility expansion
  • Received record high occupancy tax collections – 16.4% higher than FY 2013-14
  • Received high overall customer satisfaction ratings – average score of 4.67 out of 5.0
  • Recognized by Industry Professionals with three key industry awards:
    • Professional Convention Management Association’s Best High-Tech Venue Award
    • Convention South’s Reader Choice Award
    • Facilities and Destinations’ National Prime Site Award
Sales & Marketing:
  • Increased ballroom and exhibit space occupancy rate by 2% above prior fiscal year
  • Increased convention booking attendance by 9.6% and room nights by 11% above prior year
  • Hosted 11 new events at the Austin Convention Center and generated significant hotel room nights
Information Technology & Utilities:
  • Upgraded server system, which resulted in increased performance and reduced power consumption
  • Completed Wi-Fi upgrade, which improved access and wireless experience in high density environments for our clients, exhibitors, and attendees 
Retail/Guest Services:
  • Signed a new 5th street garage retail space tenant, The Escape Game, which offers unique interactive entertainment for participants
Facilities Operations:
  • Made hardscape improvements around the facility, including creating new outdoor event space
  • Commenced work on a multi-year, multi-million dollar project to replace/modernize escalators
  • Diverted over a million pounds of waste from the landfill 
  • Attained record revenue, which increased 20% above prior fiscal year
  • Completed the implementation of hand-held equipment at the ACCD garages, which enabled improved efficiency in traffic management in and around the garages
  • Substantially completed a radio dispatcher console, which allowed for more efficient and effective radio communication
 ACCD continues to improve on its mission to “provide outstanding event facilities and services to our customers so they can have a positive experience” and to remain world-class meeting and convention center facilities.
