Mission
The mission of the Austin Code Department is to provide effective community education and fair and equitable enforcement of local property maintenance, land use and nuisance codes in order to gain and maintain compliance, so that Austin will be safe and livable.

63680 total inspections in fiscal year 18 which is a 67% increase compared to fiscal year 17, 4120% increase in collected fines and penalties; the extended hours program was launched in May 2018 to increase the department's service hours to the community from tuesday to saturday until 8pm
the repeat offender program (R.O.P.) found 1430 deficiencies in fiscal year 2018 which was a 49% increase compared to FY 2017; there was a 46% increase in escalated cases to the Building standards commission in fiscal year 2018; the R.o.p. program was created in 2014 and so far has 102 properties registered, 19 properties removed and 2 cases escalated to the district court
the notices of violations for city-owned properties decreased from 133 in fiscal year 2017 to 76 in fiscal year 2018 due to enhanced enforcement; the short-term rental program issued over 2000 licenses issued. There were 25 administrative citations issued in fiscal year 2017 and then 215 citations issued in fiscal year in 2018. The notices of violations issued in fiscal year 2017 was 120 and then 107 in fiscal year 2018.
the community engagement saw a 117% increase in total events in fiscal 2018. There was a 206% increase in stakeholder and neighborhood meetings in fiscal year 2018.; Code Connect was launched in April 2018.
